An attachment in a cyber security context refers to an attachment that may appear in an email or even a social media or mobile app messenging or communications system. 

Attachments can include videos, pictures, documents, spreadsheets, links to websites, and the like.
The issue arises when malware has been inserted into the attachment that may then run if the recipients machine or device is vulnerable. This is known as a malicious attachment.
Malicious attachments are used in phishing and spearphishing attacks.
