Private Cloud, which is likely made up of unshared infrastructure, platforms, software and applications dedicated to your organisation in your own or a 3rd party’s datacentre or centres, likely accessed by users via VPN. It may have your own or a 3rd party’s platform and application residing on it. Your risks may be limited to the fact that it is on the internet, patching regimes of you and the third party, system administrator access and any vulnerability the backend systems controlling your infrastructure the 3rd party may have in place.

Public Cloud, which is likely made up of infrastructure, platforms, software and applications shared between people and organisations in a 3rd party datacentre or centres. It may have your own or a 3rd party’s platform and applications residing on it, likely multiple third parties. Your risks may be limited to the fact that it is on the internet, patching regimes of all third parties, technical and security skill of the third parties in mapping your data to the right drives etc, system administrator access of the 3rd party and any vulnerability the backend systems controlling your infrastructure the 3rd party may have in place.

Hybrid Cloud, which is likely made up of a combination of public private and community clouds.

Community Cloud, which is likely a public cloud for a particular group such as an industry or sector.

Malicious Cloud, which is a botnet.
