Malware is simply: malicious software.

  • prolific;

  • often not particularly sophisticated, yet still very effective;

  • freely available on the internet along with help guides and tools for anyone to use against individuals or corporations at the click of a mouse;

  • traded on the black market along with guns for hire and organisations that are vulnerable.

Without running, malware is harmless. There is no such thing as 100% protection, and note malware doesn’t always require you to click on something to run, some can self-propagate (worm).
